Logicool V320 Cordless Optical Mouse

May 30, 2008 • Technology

My Targus notebook mouse of about 4 years died. Nothing sudden, just kept losing touch with the pointer on the screen, leaving me futilely clicking and scrolling until I realized I had to unplug and plug it back in. Very annoying. I thought this problem would resolve itself but it kept getting worse. Finally, I did the most ungeeky thing ever and whined pathetically to my fiance and he suggested the cord was going bad.

Oh. Right. Why did I think of that? 1

Logicool V320 Cordless Optical Mouse

So I hopped online, went to Amazon.co.jp, and bought a new one: the Logicool V320 Cordless Optical Mouse. I figured it was time for an upgrade anyway and I couldn’t justify spending $80 USD on Apple’s Mighty Mouse, particularly because the mouse it not contoured in any way to fit your hand. Plus, Logicool is actually Logitech (except in Japan) and I’ve had reliability with every other product I’ve bought from them (including my backup trackball and speakers, all sitting in the US).

Incidentally, the reason why they are Logicool is because some other company already had the name Logitech before they expanded into the Japan market. Why they picked Logicool, a name that is so obviously not, is beyond me.

Anyway, I finally got it and have adjusted to it (somewhat), so without further ado, here are my thoughts.

Same size as my hand...good!

Pros

  • The mouse itself is excellently designed. I wouldn’t call it ergonomic because it would need to curve just a bit at the base (kind of a very weak J shape) but it’s close. There is very minimal hand stress to using this mouse.
  • It has scrolling and zooming features…a step up from the old mouse.
  • It is a good size for small hands. If you have pianist’s fingers, this is not the mouse for you.
  • The receiver fits into a built-in storage slot in the mouse and it also turns off the batteries by doing so. Not like the mouse uses a lot of battery juice per operation, but it does help that Logicool Logitech is power-conscious.
See what I had to do to get it?

Cons

  • The packaging is terrible. They made a helpful perforated outline so that once you break through the barrier seal, you can just pull it apart like a clamshell…assuming you can break the barrier seal. Maybe I’m just too spoiled by the fact that most Japanese packages open from the bottom, like opening a letter, or have helpful, notched tabs with “Open here” written nearby.
  • Although it’s very compact, it is significantly heavier than my last notebook mouse, cord included. Nothing major and certainly not as heavy as a trackball but still something to think about when packing.
  • It’s a little trigger happy and much more sensitive than my previous mouse. I have gone into the settings and adjusted things accordingly and it’s still whizzing around the screen like a mouse with too much caffeine. Maybe this is just newer technology and I need to catch up?

Other Notes

I should have gotten the red one. It would have made Kuro look evil.

Final Thoughts

The Logicooltech V320 is certainly no gamers mouse but it is a good one for people with small hands. The cordless aspect could be beneficial everywhere and enables this mouse to be a decent, if somewhat hefty, notebook mouse.

All this while, I never cared much for such peripherals, and was content with the run of the mill keyboards and mice. It wasn’t until I decided to splurge on that gaming mouse that made me realize what was missing in my life(lawl).

Actually, I almost opted for a wireless similar to yours, but the high end ones were really out of my budget :x

I’ve never used any wireless stuff before, but I’m planning to get a pair of wireless headphones in the second half of the year if my budget allows.

I actually have this fear of using wireless stuff, since there’s always a higher chance of loosing them as compared the wired counterparts.

@Shin: Yeah, some of the mice? can be insanely expensive. How did computers get to be like this? Aren’t they supposed to get cheaper??? Mine wasn’t so bad…$25 USD.

@double: Wireless is awesome. It’s true that you could lose them but it really cleans up the desk space. I anticipate that I will soon also be free of my ethernet cable. ^_^

Did the mouse come with Logitech Setpoint? There’s mixed reviews on that software but you’d definitely be able to set your mouse sensitivity better.

25$ hmm? I would have suggested the Logitech VX Revolution, it’s the one I have for my laptop and I <333 it. ^^
I have pianist fingers, despite quitting it years ago. =/

I’m using Wacom Bamboo Fun as my mouse o.o

It costs roughly 100 usd on amazon with a tablet pen and also a wireless mouse that will only work on the tablet

@Nagato: Nope, no software or anything like that. :( I was kind of surprised because all other mice I’ve gotten have it.

@elezend: I have the plain old Bamboo…no mouse though. I love it though. ^_^

passingby

i got black/red one. it look good, but yes after 3-4 hrs of using it, i can feel that it is a bit too small for my hand.

over all it is a good mouse. anyway i will have to get a bigger mouse for everyday use. may be G5, just for the sake of my hand. and keep this one for a notebook use.
