Caitlin O'Mara's Blog

Dear Cuil

Dear Cuil,

Congrats on your new search engine entering the playing field! News reports boast that your search index spans 120 billion web pages…very impressive (even if 12% of all websites are porn)! I’m also a big fan of your layout - sleek and simple.

But I have to ask…where is my website? I typed in “caitlinomara”, “caitlin omara”, “caitlin o’mara”, and finally “caitlinomara.com” and still nothing. I did, however, find impressive links to fellow bloggers, scrapers, and Technorati. That would have been cool except the scraper links outnumbered the legitimate links backs.

Now, I know I’m not a long, outstanding blog and my name has absolutely no caché. I don’t need you to tell me that - I can look at my stats page any time and cry. But I don’t know how much more direct I can be with “caitlinomara.com”. What do I have to do to get listed on your search engine?!?!

Until then, you can find me on Google, Yahoo, and even the dilapidated AltaVista.

Sincerely,
-Caitlin

Cuil is so lame… my own vanity searches had stupid results as well.

Haha, I feel exactly the same when I search for myself as well. So, erm, try not to worry about it?

Don’t worry, it ignores me as well. :P
Or at least, my site. Gets my IconBuffet and Twitter profiles, among others…

And Terrouge makes me laugh. XD First result is the Wikipedia Articles for Deletion. Then the actual website, but for some inexplicable reason, it has this image: http://www.cuilimg.com/imgsrv?i=020a0c:1150640613346569

Still, they are getting better. Last time I searched for Singulair, they had no results. Now they have the ‘official’ website, but once again, the image is out to lunch.

And let’s face it - they’ve been open for a time that is counted in hours. Their competition is measured in years (Google, Yahoo, Windows Search - the largest player, and chief competitor, being Google.)

But this also explains why Twiceler was apparently trying to bring down Terrouge forums. :P Trying to get a massive index before they opened. (I was a bit concerned about the bot running around gathering all the data, with no parent search website. Now I’m happier!)

Aha!! Here we go.
As per this page, if you want to be indexed, just send them an email. ^^

I prefer google always. I have my igoogle set up nicely to show my emails, my google reader, and some reminders. That immediatly makes google way way cooler :D

I do like Cuil’s layout, though perhaps it’s a little dark for a search engine. The results page is very nice though.

@Sasa: I’m not particularly worried…just disappointed that the hype wasn’t really worth it. Would have been nice to see something new and awesome in that category.

@Philip P.: I thought they would have amassed all that prior to launch?

@Catherine: I rely heavily on Google, perhaps a bit much. x.x

i have more luck and results on “otakurean” :D but also sadly none of them is my site actual address =_=”
