Jul 09, 2008 • Japanese School Lunch
Please note that an American menu will not be provided for comparison because of summer vacation.
Still catching up on the backlog of lunches. The junior high school students were taking exams this week so I was mostly at elementary schools.
As for me, I’ve started my diet at home. These lunches, on average, are about 600 calories. It’s all fine and good for growing children but like the rest of the teachers, I’ve put on a couple. Now I understand why most teachers take the bread home, or only eat half their rice. I will start doing the same in the future.

| I translated "nira" as chive…it’s more like an onion except it’s long and green. Not really sure on the best translation of this. |

| Everyone agreed that this is one of the odder lunches the lunch center has made…this combination was usually high in carbs. |

I believe Fruits Basket had ‘nira’ as ‘leek’, though chives may be right.
Yea, there seems to be a lot of carbs abound the menu, though personally I find myself only feeling full from rice, while bread’s more of a breakfast/snack food.
